Who we are
We belong to the Roman Catholic order of the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer (Latin name: Congregatio Sanctissimi Redemptoris or C.Ss.R) and are part of the Redemptorist Community of Singapore and Malaysia. The Congregation was founded by St. Alphonsus Maria de Liguori of Naples, Italy, in 1732. The Saint is the patron saint of the Singapore church. St. Alphonsus was declared the patron of moral theologians by Pius XII in 1950.
In the spirit of its founder, Redemptorists strive to imitate Jesus Christ by preaching the Good News of God's love to the most abandoned and spiritually neglected. The aim is to be an instrument of God's infinite love and compassion to this broken world.
The Redemptorists came to Singapore from Australia and initially established a chapel at 339 Thomson Road(where the Thomson Medical Centre now stands). They finally found their permanent home at the present site at 300, Thomson Road, in early 1950, and a new chapel was blessed on 14 May 1950.
