To conquer death and bring us back to life
You made your only Son Redeemer of humanity.
May we ever remember your kindness,
Cling to you with unfailing love,
And so enjoy the benefits of your Redemption.
Grant this through Christ our Lord. AMEN
(from Emmanuel Hermitage)
The feast of the Title of the Order and the Congregation of the Most Holy Redeemer "stresses those aspects of Redemption which lie outside the scope of history, namely the love of the Father who gave us his Son, and the love of the Son, giving himself up in our place." (Divine Office - Proper C.Ss.R.). Their motto is: "With Him there is plentiful redemption" [Psalms 130 (129): 7].
Solemnity of the Most Holy Redeemer: 16 July 2017 (for readings, click here)
"He, who is the 'image of the invisible God' (Col 1:15), is himself the perfect human being who has restored in the children of Adam the likeness of God which has been disfigured ever since the first sin. For, by his Incarnation, he, the Son of God, in a certain way united himself with each human being. He worked with human hands, he thought with a human mind. He acted with a human will, and with a human heart, he loved. Born of the Virgin Mary, he has truly been made one of us, like to us in all things except sin." (GS 22). He is the Redeemer of humankind!
Christ is the source of our salvation, which is realised through the mystery of the Redemption. Christ, the redeemer of the world, is the one who has penetrated in a unique, unrepeatable way into the mystery of the human being and entered the human "heart".
The Second Vatican teaches: "The truth is that only in the mystery of the Incarnate Word does the mystery of man take on light. For Adam, the first man, was a type of him who was to come (Rom 5:14), Christ the Lord. Christ, the new Adam, in the very revelation of the mystery of the Father and of His love, fully reveals man to himself and brings to light his most high calling.
